Rape Series

Part Two
WE ARE NOT SERIOUS
When the heat about the condemnable death of Uwa was on, I had a little issue with my WhatsApp group over their approach to the campaign against rape. Theirs was in response to the bandwagon of social media trend. I had suggested a holistic approach that would be total, untiring, unbiased, and effective in curbing it from occurring in the first place (proactive).

There were series of protest, media campaign, and some other here and there. But for some days now, none has talked about rape again. It has been overtaken by events; Floyd death, Davido’s other babymama, Edo’s APC primary election. One particular lady who carried it on her head has now been engrossed in Tacha’s page. She has been there shouting ‘I am Titan”
During that time too, everyone shouted ‘Castrate the Idiot!’ and when a video emerged where a woman was abusing a boy, everybody went into oblivion. Sometimes, one cannot help it but see their campaign as a male gender war. Misandry disguised as feminism. One out of every thirty American Males has been either raped or almost. Why is rape not discussed as a subject and never with male in mind? Pains have no gender.

Are we really serious about stopping rape? If we are, then the responses from ladies when they were asked what their reaction would be if they were raped and offered two million Naira would shock you? None of the ladies accepted to reject the money and press for charges. Some even shamelessly said that they would even ask to be continually raped. During that time too, everybody started speaking out. Cases of ten years ago were brought up. Funnily all the people who were called out were all people doing well. Perhaps those who are not doing well are forgiven their sins.

Rape is a serious crime but all indices point that my country people do not consider it so. They usually wait until there is a victim and boom, everybody starts talking, after a week or so, the talk would go into silence. It would be overtaken by another event, so we can say Nigeria is eventful. I hail una o
Always me.
Watch out for the next series
